A Simple Palette

July 20th, 2011 by Oscar Farber

This season is one of bold color combinations and clean, graphic lines. Drawing inspiration from menswear and the modernism of the ’60s, designers are focusing on geometric silhouettes (think sleek skinny pants, boxy tops, and shift dresses) and bright colorblocking.

To put a deliberate, well-designed spin on a look that might otherwise be simple enough to seem unintentional, I like the idea of a streamlined color palette: black, white, and red. A simple pair of black Alice + Olivia trousers, a white T by Alexander Wang top, and bright red accessories (I’m looking at you, Marc Jacobs and Rebecca Minkoff bags) should have me looking crisp and coordinated.
