Ponchos Revisited

April 14th, 2011 by Oscar Farber

Until recently, when I thought of ponchos, I thought of Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future 3, sporting a wooly number that clearly began its life as a Navajo blanket. Lindsey Thornburg changed all that.

When I saw my first Lindsey Thornburg cloak, a broad new vista opened up for me. Draped, elegant, positively ladylike, the ponchos and capes of today have nothing at all to do with the Wild West. Easygoing and flexible, they come in a range of weights and fabrics to fit every occasion, from a picnic-appropriate chiffon option by Catherine Malandrino to a sporty nylon interpretation by RLX Ralph Lauren. Startlingly fresh, this is the new frontier of borrowed-from-the-boys styling.
